sire and dam were instrumental in embedding the chocolate gene in
our
herd. They only
produced 2
litters together, but both litters proved to be a good combination
that
created correct typed, compact Lionheads.
Dolce's sire KC Java did not have the dwarf gene, but Dolce's dam KC Ribbon did, so their pairing worked well together. Only 3 kits were kept out of the 2 litters--Dolce' and 2 others. The 3 are now owned by Melissa Kelly, Anita Moore and Francine Sampey. Both KC Java and KC Ribbon were quickly passed on to others, as was Dolce'. We have an ongoing mission to create our vision for the perfect Lionhead, and used their pieces as needed in our Lionhead puzzle. KC Java was used to sire a mere 8 litters for us here at LA Lions, producing 29 kits, of which only 10 were kept. He grew to well over 4 pounds and his mane all but disappeared by maturity. Since he was no longer needed in our program, we graciously gave him away to a breeder we assumed was interested in using him to improve the Lionhead breed. His new owner continues to use him to crank out literally hundreds of kits with a vast number of brood does, so his name can be found in numerous pedigrees. LA Lions cannot speak to the quality of any of his offspring not carrying the LA Lions prefix. KC Ribbon went to my good friend Lynne Schultz in NE to assist with her Orange project. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ * |
We would like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to KIM CROAK of Kim's Cuddly Kritters! Kim Croak, a fellow Lionhead breed COD holder, generously gifted me with the stock to begin making my perception of the chocolate Lionhead a reality. For that, I will always be extremely thankful. Her bloodlines can also be found in the other COD varieties of Chocolate Tort, Lilac, Opal and Seal that I am currently working on. Kim is one of the first Lionhead breeders to pioneer several color varieties of Lionhead, and currently holds a COD in chestnut agouti, otter, marten, lilac tort & BEW. |
click on photo to see larger image Dolce' was a tremendous herd buck for us for Fall 2008 to Spring 2009. His small, upright stature, clean ears & saddle, and compact size created many show winners for us at LA Lions. We found him very versatile to use with a few of our does in our different color projects. He has sired 13 different color varieties, including black, blue, chocolate, lilac, all 4 colors of tort, chestnut, orange, opal, chocolate agouti and lynx. Dolce' produced 13 litters for us while here at LA Lions. In those litters were 24 bucks and 21 does (this number does not take into account culls). We currently still have 10 Dolce' babies in our herd that we are using in our breeding program. *** Sire to these 2009 NALRC Nat'ls Winners: BOV Blue - LA Lions Brock ***1 BOB, 1 BOS, 2 BOV, 1 BOSV at other shows BOV Chocolate - LA Lions Brando BOV Lilac Tort - LA Lions Princess Becky ***1 BOSV at other show 1st Chocolate Jr Doe - LA Lions Pandora ***2 BOV at other shows 4th Place Black Jr. Doe - LA Lions Magda *** Other Show Winners Dolce' has sired: 2 BOV - LA Lions Cafe Ricci BOV Choc Youth '09 NALRC Natls 1 BOV - LA Lions Marvel 1 BOB, 4 BOV - LA Lions "Ibby" 1 BOS, 3 BOV - LA Lions Allegan 1 BOSV - LA Lions Eden 1 BOV - LA Lions Gloria 2 BOV - LA Lions Pandora 3 BOV - LA Lions Platinum ~~~~~ Click the button below to look at all the photos from 2009 NALRC Nationals: ![]() |
